Antonio's little brother, grandmother, and Antonio (far right) as a child in Mexico.

I was born in Guangzhou, China and migrated here to the United States in 1999 when I was about 50 years old. Since I've been in the US, I have worked at a bakery store, garment factory, and laundry store. Now, I work for In-Home Supportive Services as a housekeeper. I have been participating in community activities ever since Ive known about the Chinese Progressive Association (CPA) and am part of the worker network at CPA.

I have a really low income because I don’t have good English skills - I earn $10,000 a year as a housekeeper. I live in a Single Room Occupancy (SRO) building and spend most of my paycheck on rent. My room is in a very old building and run down. We sometimes have leaky ceilings and broken toilets but the owner doesn't do anything to fix it.

I have only been back in China twice during my 15 years in the United States. Currently, my son is studying Chinese Medicine in university in Guangzhou after he came back from serving in the US Marines for 4 years. It has been 3 years since I have seen my son -  I would really like to travel to Guangzhou to see my son as well as my uncle, auntie, older sister, son, and younger brother. I would especially like to see them during the Chinese New Year next year so we can celebrate the holidays together.

We have a really close relationship among siblings in my family because we were all taken care by my elder sister after my mom passed away when I was really young. My elder sister is very old now and always wishes we can reunite one day.

Thank you for your help.
